can you DIGG it?

Today we were asked to discuss the interactive features on digg. com and talk about some of the interesting items posted on digg, frankly I think a lot of things on digg are pretty stupid such as a photograph of a Metallica Signed Sewing Machine, you can replicate anything on photoshop nowadays so i'm thinking it's fake, but then again thats just me. And the 11 metal cliches... please...

There are not a lot of interactive features that are different that you won't find on other blog-type sites.

I also found This

It's about the new Guns N' Roses Album

Reflection On Teenage Brain Assignment

We were asked to watch a video on the teenage brain and take notes.

A lot of what is in it is not relating to everyone in this such as me, I am a bit different than the teenager that they showed in this video. I agree with a lot of it but I think my brain went through the "Immature" stage around age 15 - 16 1/2.
It is also that some people "get it" and some don't, the ideas of a teenage mind. But these doctors seem to be smart and seem to know what they are talking about and I somewhat agree.

Interactive Features On Boston.com

We were asked to talk about some of the interactive features in the educational features on boston.com. The only problem is I did not see any interactive features that made this site unique other than the top MCAS scores for the state. I wish I had more to find that was unique and interactive about this site but I did not see anything else.

Define Terms For Class

We Were Asked in class to define these terms in our blog:

Shot Composition: The way someone sets up a video or picture before they shoot.

Editing: Changing The order of events in a film to correspond with how the creator likes.

Narration: Someone describing an event in their own words that has happened.

Documentary: A Non-Fiction movie without actors.

Fiction: A story about something that has not actually happened or will never happen.

Non-Fiction: A real story with real events and people.

We were also asked to watch 2 videos from the NY Times website describe how the vocabulary we just defined is used in the video.

This video has shot composition because the person is directly in the center of the shot with enough background to balance out.

Not all shots were taken at once they were taken over time and they order that they were taken was probably changed as well.

Narration was incorporated into the film although it wasn't really a documentary, i guess you could call it a cooking lesson.

This video was not fiction, it was about real cooking which would make it a non-fiction video.

I Will try to incorporate all of these things except fiction because this is an autobiography.

NY Times Video Composition

We were asked to watch a clip of a video on the NY Times website, nothing specific, so i chose RAMBO 1985. They use mostly film and interviewing with good shot composition. Shot composition is how the shot is taken with what in the background. It also had narration over the video. Narration is someone speaking about a story.

Interactive Features Of The NY Times Politics

Aside from what I am about to talk about I just wanted to say that I am happy the way the election turned out because everything I voted for went my way.

It is hard for me to describe about how some of the features on this page are considered "Interactive Journalism", but I'll do the best I can.

Some of the multimedia features are the debate maps and a video of Obama's victory speech, but other than that I just thought that everything is similar to a lot of other political websites.

Interactive Journalism On BBC

We were asked to blog about what kind of interactive journalism is on BBC's website. And the only interactive items on BBC's website is (that I thought at least) were the U.S. presidential election maps and the battleground maps but overall I would not call this site very interactive (to my knowledge), even though they have been an extremely large broadcasting company for a long time; I still think they could make it a little more interactive. Although it does broadcast the news in 32 different languages on its website.

The History Of Halloween

In class we were asked to blog about the history of halloween and according to history.com, Is Celts believed that on the night before the new year, the boundary between the worlds of the living and the dead became blurred. On the night of October 31, they celebrated Samhain, when it was believed that the ghosts of the dead returned to earth. In addition to causing trouble and damaging crops, so therefore "trick or treat". They warded the spirits away by having a celebration. During this celebration, the Celts wore costumes, typically consisting of animal hides, and attempted to tell each other's futures. When the celebration was over, they re-lit their hearth fires, which they had extinguished earlier that evening, from the sacred bonfire to help protect them during the coming winter.

And Therefore Halloween.

What Makes A Good Biography

We were asked to blog about what makes a good biography and to me a good biography is a story that expresses feeling and shows the real person with no hidden secrets. A good biography is also a story that is well put together and is also very well explained, it is very detailed usually with video and images not just a black screen. And that is what I think a good biography is.

Weekend Of October 24th - 26th

This past weekend I had so much book work to do that i could not hang out with my friends late on Friday or Saturday and I didn't hang out at all on Sunday. And on top of that i had something to do for journalism and I couldn't do that because I had no idea what to do and the teacher thinks I'm stupid for not doing it. Oh Joy more people that think I'm stupid or annoying.

Robert Swan

We were asked to blog about Robert Swan and apparently Robert Swan is regarded as one of the worlds top motivational speakers which comes out of 30 years of success and failure. With what he's been through he has the power to speak about and overcome anything. I think this man sounds like he could possibly be a very powerful person and he obviously sound quite smart too. And he seems to also be a very persuasive man with a lot of talent.

Response To Elaine McArdles Speech

after we went to view Elaine McArdle speak at our high school she made me realize that journalism is a tough field with many obstacles but it can also be fun and exciting I wish I could say more but I Don't remember a lot and she came to my class last year when I was a junior.

Elaine McArdle

Tomorrow I am filming a journalist name Elaine McArdle, she has been a journalist for 20 years.
She has written stuff from law to politics to health. She graduated from the College of Louisiana and Vanderbilt University Law School. She now writes for the Boston Globe, she teachs non-fiction writing at Grub street. So I think filming her and possibly meeting her would be a good journalistic experience. If I had to ask her a question i'd ask "If you could be in any type of journalism what would it be?"

New Song

Last night i was bored out of my freakin' skull so I decided to write a song on guitar (thinking that I was just going to fail like I usually do). So I sat down and started jamming around when all of a sudden i hit this special (to me) chord progression on my capoed guitar and everything seemed to come together from there.

Anyways...

To anyone who thinks they can't write a song, I am living proof.

Keep On Truckin'!

(Although I Cannot Sing Well Please Try To Enjoy It)

Columbus Day Weekend

This past Columbus Day weekend I hung out with a couple of friends on Friday, on Saturday I went to New York to help out my grandmother who hurt her back, I was there from Saturday afternoon to Monday. But the real fun was Monday night when I was with 2 people and we walked train tracks in Belmont to Cambridge then we had to jump a barbed fence(or so it felt like one) because we missed the turn due to it being night. As I jumped over my pants got caught on the spikes at the top, and I was hanging from the top of it for about a minute until my pants completely shredded and I fell, But my wallet was on the other side of the fence so I had to climb back over and get my wallet and then back so that shredded my pants even more and i cut my ass a bit apparently so it hurts to sit.

Music Industry & Ripping Off People

We watched a video called "Merchants Of Cool" in class and part of it talked about the music industry and as soon as MTV found the band or artist out it the band probably sold its soul to the MTV corporation. For example ICP (insane clown posse) is a band that used to be underground but since MTV has found them out and exploited them they are worthless. They have done that with many other bands such as Slipknot and Disturbed (of those three i don't listen to).

Time Moved Back An Hour?

I woke up this morning and I saw that it was still relativly dark outside. So I get up and I get ready for school like always, but as I walked out on to Main Street and I saw next to no cars as if it was 6:30 ( as opposed to the actual time of 7:30) . As I continue walking I saw no one walking the streets. But as I get to school I see the regular crowd shuffle in and I realize that it is the time my watch says it (which by then is 7:45). So I guess in actuallity time did not move back and it was all just my imagination.

Weekend Of October 3rd - 5th

This weekend was interesting to an extent but also boring and quick.

Friday I went to KFC with a couple of my friends. then we went to our friend Hanks a watched the Red Sox game.

Saturday I had an amazing band jam with my band and a couple of other people we might add to the band.

and Sunday wasn't too interesting; I mainly walked around Belmont and Watertown all day.

A "Mook"

A "mook" people think is a rude, outlandish, good looking guy. But to me a "mook" is a dumbass guy who is craving attention. It is also the popular statement set out by MTV for an excuse to get more ratings.

"Coolness"

People supposedly follow the latest and "coolest" trends, but it is different for everyone, one person will like one thing and another teenager will like something else. Although the likings may be similar to a few or a lot of teenagers; everyone varies in their likings.

I believe that coolness is what you enjoy, is what you do, what you live for, anything you believe in is cool, no matter what people say.

My Weekend Of September 26th - 28th

This past weekend I hung out with one of my new friends named Colin who happens to be a "Metalhead/Grunge Boy". Him , Hank and I hung out on Saturday. Hank and I like to go on adventures such as walking around and exploring the train tracks of belmont which lead to Fresh Pond, anyways back to my point because I am short on time. Hank, Colin and I explored a lot then Hank left so Colin and I went to guitar center and played a lot of guitar. Then we went to my house and listened to Rage Against The Machine For Many Hours.

Then Sunday we all hung out again and basically did almost the exact same thing.

And that was my weekend.
